- The objective of this research is to work on a new approach to the development of ecological models where all input parameters can actually be measured on a relevant scale (from regional to global), primarily by means of remote sensing.

- It is shown how low resolution imagery, from the AVHRR sensor inboard the NOAA satellites, can be used to access information on bush fire at three levels : continental, regional and local. For management purposes, this type of imagery provides
- the requested information on temporal and spatial patterns of fire distribution. Characterization of critical regions and time of the year can help in the definition of priorities.
