Deforestation is a general problem in Tanzania. One of the major reasons is tobacco farming. The study area is the major tobacco producing area in Mbeya Region, Chunya district. A procedure has been made for estimating deforestation and regrowth patterns in Miombo woodland on the basis of multi-date Landsat MSS data.
