TAYLOR, Z.

Description :
The devastation of railway lines came at hands of so-called trofeynye batalyony which entered Polish territory in parallel to the movement of the front line, and devastated or dismentled all infrastructural elements suitable for robbery, and rolling stock. In total, 1500 km of single track standard-gauge, 200 km of narrow-gauge, and 1772 km of second tracks on multi-track lines which have never been reconstructed again were taken away. 1087 km of single track standard-gauge, 110 km of narrow-gauge, and 697 km of second tracks were dismantled, only to be successfully reconstructed by PKP. The majority of the dismantled lines were in the Mazurian and Pomeranian Lakelands, with fewer in Western Poland and Lower Silesia. The trofeynye batalyony divested 407 km of the electric traction network, mainly in Lower Silesia. - (BJ)
