This volume of Quaternary Science Journal comprises a number of articles reviewing the present status of physical dating methods in Quaternary research, with a special focus on continental deposits and archaeological materials. The ten articles
The Quaternary of the Great Hungarian Plain in Loess and the Quaternary: Chinese and Hungarian case studies.
The Great Hungarian Plain is the largest sedimentary basin of Europe filled with great thicknesses of Neogene sediments. The complex mapping of deposits showed that during the Quaternary the maximum degree of subsidence was 700 m and in the lowlands
Quaternary shelf deposits and drainage patterns off the French and Belgian coasts in The Quaternary and Tertiary geology of the Southern Bight, North Sea.
High-resolution reflection seismic data recorded in the Southern Bight of the North Sea have allowed to draw a first general reconstruction of the topography of the base of the Quaternary deposits. The morphological aspects of this erosion surface
have been confronted with the knowledge of the Quaternary history of the Belgian coastal plain, yielding a hypothesis about the origin of the palaeolandforms and of the present-day offshore morphology. The evolution of this erosion surface is also
Problems of the Quaternary geomorphology of the Xixabangma region in South Tibet and Nepal in Quaternary of the Karakoram and Himalaya.
During the Quaternary, Mt Xixabangma has been progressively uplifted and denuded by rivers and glaciers, and by the effects of periglacial conditions. The balance between these agents differs greatly on different aspects of the massif, as do
the resulting landscapes. This complicates the interpretation of Quaternary tectonic and climatic history. The A. tries to clarify the succession of the glaciations and presents a critical summary and review of the Chinese work.
Paleoclimatic significance of late Quaternary lacustrine and alluvial stratigraphy, Animas Valley, New Mexico
C 14 dating ; Holocene ; Lacustrine sediment ; Lake level ; New Mexico ; Palaeoclimate ; Quaternary ; Stratigraphy ; United States of America
The purpose of this study is to use lacustrine and alluvial stratigraphy, landforms, soil evidence, and radiocarbon ages to econstruct the latest Quaternary geologic history of the southern Animas Valley, New Mexico. Because the late Quaternary
geologic history is directly related to the climatic history of the region, this study also presents a late Quaternary paleoclimatic reconstruction for southeastern Arizona and southwestern New Mexico.
Special Issue. Recent developments in Quaternary Geology: Implications for Geoscience Education and Research
Concept ; Geographic research ; Quaternary ; Research
Quaternary geologists will have to convince government, industry and a variety of scientific groups that they possess unique training and expertise that is needed as part of the thrust to fully understand and/ or resolve major scientific problems

Quaternary correlations in Arctic Canada in Quaternary glaciations in the Northern Hemisphere.
In the Hudson Bay/James Bay Lowlands, along the coasts of Banks Island, and along the eastern coast of Baffin Island continuous and extensive sections in Quaternary sediments are rich in marine fossils, buried peats and soils and contain a wide
variety of glacigenic sediments together with glacial marine units and littoral deposits. Lake muds are also fairly common. All three areas possess very long records that may extend to the early Quaternary and Pliocene.
