associations requires knowledge of the processes of infiltration and conservation of pollen grains in the soil material. Micromorphology is an important technique to investigate these processes. This is demonstrated in a case study of polycyclic slope deposits

environments : the clayey layers a wet period and the calcareous layers a dry period. Based on a pedogenic approach supported by micromorphological indications, however, it is concluded that the clayey layers together with the calcareous layers form a single
variously interpreted as glacial, glacioaqueous or periglacial in origin, implying different sedimentary environments. Micromorphology is presented as a useful technique to aid the analysis of such sediments, using systematic description of the physical

Six profiles were sampled in the Victoria Falls National Park in order to investigate the influence of the abundant spray of the falls on the pedogenesis in the otherwise semi-arid environment. Chemical, mineralogical and micromorphological analyses
indicate that the parent material is a more dominant factor determining chemical, mineralogical and micromorphological characteristics than precipitation. The main active process is bioturbation.

, and developed on loess-like mantle loams of Late Weichselian (Valday) age in the northern forest-steppe zone of the East European plain (Middle Russian Upland) were described and sampled near Puschino, some 100 km south of Moscow. Micromorphology, particle size
Micromorphological and geochemical characterization of Tertiary freshwater carbonates locally preserved north of the edge of the Miocene Molasse Basin (SW Germany)
Miocene carbonates intercalated in a deposit of Upper Freshwater Molasse (Middle Miocene), exposed in a limestone quarry at Heidenheim-Mergelstetten, were analysed geochemically and micromorphologically. The aim was to reconstruct the soil forming
