Coleoptera faunal composition in Belarus in the terminal Pleistocene

Last ice sheet dynamics and deglaciation in the North European Plain

Description :
Remnants of Coleoptera of late glacial age have been investigated at 8 sites in Belarus. The sites are situated at varying distances from the maximum extent of the last glaciation. The palaeo-temperatures of the month of july during the lifespan of the beetles are reconstructed by comparison with their present habitats. Close to the margin of the ice shield the Coleoptera fauna proved to be more diverse, even including species of the present-day northern taiga area, than in the more humid periglacial zone to the south.
