Effects of climate change on soils in glacial deposits, WindRiverBasin, Wyoming
In a detailed study of soils in the WindRiver Range and WindRiverBasin, characteristics of near-surface horizons do not follow age trends. However, the underlying carbonate-bearing horizons do have age-related characteristics. This soil paradox
may be related to glacial-interglacial cycles in which 1) wind erodes near-surface horizons and then provides new parent material and 2) cryoturbation disrupts carbonate horizons, remobilizing carbonate and changing carbonate morphology but with only

This paper dealt with sensitivity of potentiel evapotranspiration (Eo) over China, which was divided into 10 drainage systems, including Songhua Riverbasin, Liaohe Riverbasin, Haihe Riverbasin, Yellow Riverbasin, Yangtze Riverbasin, Pearl River
basin, Huaihe River drainage system, Southeast river drainage system, Northwest river drainage system and Southwest river drainage system. In addition, the calculation method of global radiation in Penman-Monteith formula was improved by optimization
, and the sensitivities of Penman-Monteith potential evapotranspiration to the daily maximum temperature (STmax), daily minimum temperature (STmin), wind speed (SU2), global radiation (SRs ) and vapor pressure (SVP) were calculated and analyzed based on the long-term

in the northern Great Plains. This was followed by rapid natural dispersal northward by water and wind through the Wind/Bighorn system and into the Yellowstone and Missouri rivers in Montana.

In this paper, based on the daily meteorological data from 1960 to 2007 within and around the Aksu RiverBasin, reference evapotranspiration (RET) was estimated with the FAO Penman-Monteith method. The temporal and spatial variations of RET were
elevation areas where relative humidity predominated the change of the RET, the variations of wind velocity predominated the changes of RET almost throughout the basin.
analyzed by using ARCGIS and Mann-Kendall method. Multiple Regression Analysis was employed to attribute the effects of the variations of air temperature, solar radiation, relative humidity, vapour pressure and wind speed on RET. Except in some high

Aeolian modification of moraine soils, Whiskey Basin, Wyoming, USA
Soils along catenas of Pinedale and Bull Lake at Whiskey Basin, in the WindRiver Range, were sampled to assess the effects of aeolian processes on soil development. Aeolian processes appear to have influenced soils by both depositing sediments
and eroding topsoils. Pedogenic silt (often used as an indicator of wind deposition) accumulated in the Bluff Lake soils moderately correlate with pedogenic clay accummulated, suggesting that fine sediments may have been deposited and incorporated into soil
formation here. The AA. suggest that aeolian modification of soils also can be demonstrated on moraines at Whiskey Basin.

to be due to the Ekman transport generated by the onshore monsoon winds. The high sediment discharge into Malindi Bay can be attributed to land use change in the Athi-Sabaki RiverBasin in addition to rapid population increase which has led to clearance
in a period of high intensity South East Monsoon (SEM) winds that generate strong north flowing current that transports the river sediment plume northward. The mechanism of advection of the sediment plume north or south of the estuary is mainly thought

According to the meteorological observation data of 72 stations from 1960 to 2010 in the Huanghe (Yellow) River Watershed, China, the long-term variations of potential evapotranspiration, calculated in the modified Penman-Monteith model were

Erosion and sediment yields as influenced by coupled eolian and fluvial processes : the Yellow River, China

Based on data from the middle Yellow River, a model of erosion and sediment yield is proposed to describe coupled eolian and fluvial processes in a transitional zone from arid to sub-humid climates, and to explain rapid erosion and a high sediment
yield in the zone. As a result, most of the previously stored eolian sand and material supplied by mass-wasting of loess can be transported to the major tributaries and the main stream of the Yellow River, resulting in the high specific sediment yield
. There exists an optimal grain size composition which maximizes suspended sediment concentration in the study area, resulted from the combined wind-water processes.

This paper presents data on hydrochemistry and suspended sediment dynamics from a small glaciated catchment in Svalbard. Bertram River is distinguished by a system of waterfalls which divides the catchment in 2 parts : an upper glaciated part
located on mountainous plateau, and a lower part where an abraided plain has been formed within the bottom of the Ebba River valley. On the basis of observations it is concluded that a particular role in the conditioning of glaciofluvial transport
was played by an extreme weather event in the form of föhn-type wind, observed in the decline of ablation season and also by waterfalls which diversified the fluvial activity.

and the temporal trends of the regional means for 10 major riverbasins and whole China are analyzed. Through a partial correlation analysis, the major climate factors which affect the temporal change of the potential evapotranspiration are analyzed. Decline
tendencies of sunshine duration and/or wind speed in the same period appear to be the major causes for the negative trend of the potential evapotranspiration in most areas.
