development by three processes, scarp backwasting, fluvial erosion, and groundwater sapping, acting singly or in combination. The simulated scarps are statistically compared with natural scarps using a multivariate suite of variables measuring planform shape.

This paper presents the results of statistical analysis carried out for the purpose of detecting cyclicity and trends in the time series. Use was made of variance spectral analysis, running means, linear regression and Mann-Kendall rank-statistics
This study develops a statistical model for the relationship between channel friction and at-a-station hydraulic geometry, which presents potential difficulties with regard to both non-linearity and spurious correlation.

This paper provides a statistical description of the playas and assesses the relationships, if any, between playa variables and the occurrence of lunettes. Data were collected from a subset of 40 topographic maps, digitized on a GIS, and analyzed
using a nonparametric statistical procedure. The data support the hypothesis of playa development by erosion rather than by dissolution and subsidence. Lunettes form from deflation of calcareous playa fill which is more common in larger playas.

Climatic classification of the Tibet autonomous region using multivariate statistical methods
analysis and discriminant analysis were followed up. The results of the multivariate statistical analysis were compared with traditional classification schemes published by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). For temperature zonation and, in particular

statistically confirmed by parametric and nonparamertric procedures. Rainfall erosivity and land degradation are related to rainfall regime. The Algarve's rainfall erosivity increase (+17%) was more pronounced than annual and seasonal rainfall changes.
Molluscs, collected from loess and loess-like profiles of Hungary by a method developed for high resolution stratigraphic studies, were statistically evaluated for a palaeoenvironmental reconstruction. Species were ranged according to 4 important

This paper reviews the history of vegetation and land use from the end of the nineteenth century to today. Historical maps and statistics were digitised and analysed with a PC Arc/Info system. A summary of information in travel reports is presented.
