Two major meltwater events are documented in cores from the NW Labrador Sea. These meltwater events coincide with Heinrich (H) layers 1 and 2 from NorthAtlantic sediments. The AA. hypothesize that δ18O records from these sites close to the former
ice margin should indicate the largest depletion due to meltwater of all NorthAtlantic sites.

The main focus lies with climatic and hydrologic implications of the major circulation patterns in the northern NorthAtlantic, namely the NorthAtlantic Oscillation (NAO) and Arctic Oscillation (AO). The studies reviewed here reveal key
relationships between circulation, climate and streamflow across the northern NorthAtlantic, allowing the construction of a simple conceptual model for this system. To help promote a better understanding of the system, several research gaps are identified
Deep-sea paleoclimatic records show that the Quaternary climate around Iceland was, and probably still is, very sensitive to rapid shifts in NorthAtlanticoceanic circulation. Correlations between six rock sequences in western, northern, eastern
, southern Iceland show a fairly distinct trend during the Pliocene-Pleistocene transition indicating the progressive growth of an ice-sheet from southeast toward the north and west. The correlations are based on K/Ar dates and paleomagnetic studies.
. The monsoon variations correlate closely with variations in NorthAtlantic drift-ice tracers that represent episodic advection of drift ice and cold polar surface water southward and eastward into warmer subpolar water. The correspondence of these records over
the full span of Holocene time implies a close relationship between NorthAtlantic climate and the monsoon climate of central China.
Eighteen radiocarbon-dated eolian and paleosol profiles within a 1500-km-long belt along the arid to semi-arid transition zone of north-central China record variations in the extent and strength of the East Asian summer monsoon during the Holocene

West African paleoclimates during the last climatic cycle inferred from an Atlantic deep-sea pollen record
The main results of pollen and dinocyst analyses on the upper 6 m of core V22-196, corresponding to the last 140,000 yr, are presented with the aim of discussing reconstructions of north tropical African environments and climates during the latest
climatic cycle, and comparing the results with previous paleoatmospheric circulation reconstructions inferred from the marine or terrestrial component of ocean sediments.
This article reviews research on the Younger Dryas event and discusses the implications of this research for understanding the role of the NorthAtlanticOcean in abrupt climatic change. The Younger Dryas has been linked with a large-scale shift
of the NorthAtlantic thermohaline circulation (THC) to a near glacial mode with a consequent reduction in northward heat transport. This shift in the THC may have been triggered by a discharge of Laurentide ice, combined with meltwater inputs from several

The deglacial pattern of a high-resolution alkenone-derived temperature record from the southeastern tropical Atlantic was compared with one from the northeastern subtropical Atlantic. During Termination 1b, surface waters in the eastern tropical
Atlantic (6°S) reached modern temperatures, whereas those in the subtropical northeastern Atlantic (21°N) were still considerably colder than today. This asymmetrical warming may reflect meltwater-induced reductions in the northward heat transport and helps
