The article describes the steps in modernizing the Austro-Hungarian General Survey and, later on the Austrian General Survey by means of applying the Gauss-Krueger projection since the beginning of the 20th century. After a series of laborious
negotiations a project for a simultanous implementation of the Gauss-Krueger projection was formulated. The draft of this agreement in German and Hungarian was accepted in Budapest on 25th July 1917. Although there was no formal ratification due to political
