Accelerator-mass-spectrometer ages for the Younger Dryas event in Atlantic Canada
The AA. present the first accelerator-mass-spectrometer (AMS) 14C dates from Atlantic Canada, at or close to the boundaries of this late glacial cooling, from six sites in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. The results place the timing of the Younger
Sea level, surface salinity of the Japan Sea, and the Younger Dryas event in the northwestern Pacific Ocean
The AA. review some of the latest Quaternary paleoenvironmental changes in the Japan Sea, and discuss possible mechanisms linking sea level change driven primarily by North Atlantic events and a Younger Dryas-type oscillation in the northwest
Young dry grassland ecosystems in Denmark : development in soil nutrient pools and root characteristics
This paper explores the soil nutrient pools of 14 young dry grasslands and compares them to the nutrient pools on heathlands, forested and agricultural land. On 2 sites, the plant species composition is compared to characteristic species for the EU
Erosion rate of a Younger Dryas cirque glacier at Krakenes, western Norway
An erosion rate of 0,5 to 0,6 mm years is deduced for a Younger Dryas cirque glacier. The erosion period of 700 years was determined from the laminated glacio-lacustrine sediments in a small lake just outside the end moraine of the cirque
Community ; Daily life ; Disability ; Marginality ; Social exclusion ; Societal relations ; Society ; United Kingdom ; Young people
The AA. identify the common processes through which D/deaf young people may become marginalised in four spaces : at home, in educational institutions, in the workplace, and within Deaf communities. Case studies enable to consider what resources
and forms of social support or assurance can help young people to be resilient in the face of the difficulties that they encounter, and what sort of experiences advance or aggravate processes of marginalisation.
England ; Enquiry ; Housing ; Housing market ; Residential mobility ; United Kingdom ; Young people
The data suggest that the types of housing pathway that young people follow are a function of differences in the combination and intensity of three main factors : the ability of young people to plan for and control their entry to independent living

This article addresses an issue of major importance to the development of every municipality, i.e. the migration plans of young people seeking to start households of their own. Piaseczno in Poland may serve as an example of a municipality located
in the municipality of Piaseczno and shared knowledge on the migration plans of young people soon due to become independent. It emerges that young people gravitate toward Warsaw, a fact that may denote future development problems for the municipality of Piaseczno
Self-rated resilience among young migrants in old Fadama, Accra, Ghana
Ghana ; Internal migration ; Resilience ; Slum ; Social capital ; Social geography ; Young people
The main objective of this paper is to explain how resilient a sample of young migrants are to the stressors encountered at the slum through a self-rated level of resilience. Drawing on resilience thinking, the Youth Resilience Framework and Social

This paper brings a relational perspective to studies of citizenship beyond national borders. Analysing the responses of 16 to 19-year-old young people in Bradford (UK) to the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, it demonstrates the complex entanglements
of young people’s lives with international politics and develop a relational conceptualisation of citizenship. It shows that youth citizenship across and beyond national borders evolves from specific lines of connection and disconnection that are actualised
and modified inperformances of citizenship identities, giving rise to diverse political positions and dissent, both with the state and between young people. We conclude with some suggestions for translating these ideas into youth citizenship practices.
Sea surface temperature of the Western Equatorial Pacific Ocean during the Younger Dryas
glacial-to-interglacial temperature change, they give no indication of a cooling during Younger Dryas time. This suggests that the Younger Dryas increase in δ18O observed in cores from the equatorial Pacific is not due to a climatic cooling but rather
Younger Dryas research and its implications for understanding abrupt climatic change
This article reviews research on the Younger Dryas event and discusses the implications of this research for understanding the role of the North Atlantic Ocean in abrupt climatic change. The Younger Dryas has been linked with a large-scale shift
Younger Dryas glaciation in Söderåsen, South Sweden : an analysis of meteorologic and topographic controls
Some new field observations are presented and the Söderåsen Younger Dryas reglaciation hypothesis is tested by means of empirical knowledge on glacier equilibrium line climate and an analytic geographical information system (GIS) experiment. The GIS
that the inferred Söderåsen Younger Dryas reglaciation is possible from a palaeoclimatic point of view.
Major end moraines of Younger Dryas age on Wollaston Peninsula, Victoria Island, Canadian Arctic : implications for paleoclimate and for formation of hummocky moraine
This paper presents a re-interpretation of part of a large moraine complex in the western Canadian Arctic. The AA. show that these moraines locally span much of the Younger Dryas interval. They may represent a regional response to Youger Dryas
conditions rather than massive regional ice stagnation during pre-Younger Dryas time. The characteristics of these moraines have some general implications for interpretation of hummocky moraine south of current permafrost limits.
