Based on the long-term serial NOAA/NDVI dataset during 1983-1999 and SPOT/VGT dataset in 2001, the land use/cover change information in the 13 provinces of northern China was extracted based on the analysis of the cultivated landscape
characteristics at first, then the effects of human activities on cultivatedland process were explored by GIS and the driving forces of cultivatedland change were investigated.
Prospects of improved farming systems in a shifting cultivation area in Zambia

The objective of this study was to quantify the redistribution of soil by wind and cultivation. The artificial fall-out radionuclide caesium-137 was used as a tracer to estimate net soil redistribution. Two sites disturbed by cultivation, one since
at least the 1940s and the other since 1979 were sampled in 1988 to estimate the influence of wind and cultivation practices.

This study investigates the impact of soil management on the status and fluxes of alkali and alkaline-earth metals in a savanna alfisol after 50 years of cultivation. The objective is to determine a suitable management practice which can best
protect savanna soils against rapid degradation and potential acidification under long-term cultivation.

progressively cultivated, and subsequently, part of cultivatedlands had been abandoned by farmers due to severe desertification. The objectives of this study are to identify changes in soil properties following 8, 30, and 50 years of grassland cultivation
The Bashang area located in the semiarid agropastoral zone, represents a typical degraded ecosystem under intensified human activities. This region has undergone profound land use changes during the past century. Natural grasslands had been
relative to natural grassland; to evaluate effects of land abandonment in a 1- to 50-year chronosequence on soil properties and vegetation establishment in Bashang area of northern China.

, urbanization-related land-use changes and their spatial variation across the country are demonstrated. Furthermore, impacts of urbanization and associated waste disposals, consequent shifts of soil utilization on areal soil quality are expatiated. China

The extent of land used for cultivation has changed frequently throughout history. Generally, increases and decreases of farm land followed a respective change in the population of a given area. In to-day's world, however, there are more factors
to be considered. The acreage of cultivatedland, for example, is reduced in areas where there is an increase in population and in the standard of living. This modern phenomenon is obviously a reflection of existing social processes and systems. Reduction
in cultivatedland today is generally linked to arable land, of which a portion is either not cultivated or lying fallow. In this work, the A. analyzes the occurrence of fallows in Croatia within the Croatian macro-regions and the spheres from 1970. Lands
