During the excavations of the site of Rue de Dinant in the historic centre of Brussels, remains of the first city wall dating from the 13th century have been discovered. Intra muros thick dark sediment units predating this wall are observed
. The interpretations will then be placed in the wider context of the development of Brussels in the 11th-13th century AD, thus providing fresh insights into the activities during this transition period.
