Characteristics of morphodynamically reflective, intermediate, and dissipative beach systems, from the data of Short (1984), are used with an iterative aeolian sediment transport model to predict beach-state controls on transport rates.
Consideration of the available equations for prediction of aeolian sand transport led to the development of a model which relies on optimization techniques for the production of improved performance. The model has been applied

upwind, within and downwind of a dry valley in the central Namib desert. A conceptual model indicating the potential implications of these data for aeolian sediment transport processes in the vicinity of dryland valleys is presented.
This paper investigates the impacts of dryland valley topography on wind speed and direction in order to understand better the effects of a valley on aeolian sediment dynamics. Anemometers and wind vanes were used to measure airflow characteristics
Wind tunnel experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of topography on the grain size characteristics of aeolian dust deposits. Experiments were performed on 3 isolated hills having various size and aspect ratios. The longitudinal
profile of the median grain diameter was investigated for each hill. The wind tunnel experiments show that the grain size characteristics of aeolian dust deposits are affected by topography.
A computer program has been developed to simulate two- or three-dimensional topographic change associated with aeolian sediment transport. This program includes a number of models and provides for interactive selection of a desired model combination

A new type of horizontal trap was developed for measuring the aeolian sand transport rate on a flat surface. The trap consists of an adjustable frame that is embedded level with the sand surface, into which a plastic liner is installed and filled
The derivation and history of the frequently cited aeoliantransport model of White are considered in light of the continued replication of an error in the original expression. The error may have escaped notice because the expression is still

This paper describes a new tipping-bucket assembly (T-BASS) that facilitates high-frequency measurement of aeolian sediment flux for unlimited time periods. It offers the advantage of precise high-frequency measurement of aeolian sediment flux

Modern research is showing clearly that there are many interactions between fluvial and aeolian processes in drylands. Aeolian accumulation patterns in time and space are strongly controlled by sediment supply from fluvial sources. Aeolian dust

In order to study grain response to natural winds the AA. have made a desert study of intermittent saltation where the flow was recorded at high frequency within the saltation layer together with total mass transport. Using a conventional equation
relating mass flux to friction speed the AA. will discuss how mass transport relates to the velocity observations and how sensitive the prediction will be to the choice of variables.

The efficiency of 5 aeolian sand samplers was tested via wind tunnel experiments and field measurements : the Big Spring Number Eight (BSNE) sampler, the Modified Wilson and Cooke (MWAC) sampler, the Suspended Sediment Trap (SUSTRA), the Pollet
catcher (POLCA), and the saltiphone. Finally, the saltiphone can accurately detect the periods of saltation transport. The most recommendable sampler in the test is the MWAC, not only because of its high efficiency, but also because its efficiency

Results are presented from several months of process measurements on the beaches of two sites in the Netherlands. The aim of the measurements was to gain insight into relationships between aeolian sand transport, meteorological conditions
, and environmental factors. This paper discusses the relationship between transport and meteorological conditions, with special attention to the deviation between actual and potential rates of transport.

A field investigation was conducted 9 March 1994 on a dissipative beach to compare wind characteristics and aeoliantransport during and after a light rain, at Wildwood, New Jersey. The amount of sand trapped at Wilwood during rainfall is relatively
high when compared to many previous studies on beaches in the absence of rain. The great length of the beach as a source area, combined with parallel or oblique winds are significant in increasing rates of sediment transport.

Aeolian sand transport was studied at the Lansphere dunes, a coastal dune complex in northern California, by comparing slipface advance rates with transport predicted based on local wind data. The slipface of a 2.5 m high transverse ridge and 10 m
period at a site 10 km away were used with the Bagnol model to predict sand transport.
