Description :
This investigation provides prehistoric and historical perspectives on the current erosion problem in extensive gully systems developed on sodic soils near St. Michael's Mission, central Zimbabwe. Specifically, the study focuses : 1) on the colluvial sediments exposed in the gully particularly with a view to determining the timing and nature of prehistoric gullying, 2) the main factors affecting gully growth since the 1940s, and 3) small-scale influences on present day headcut recession.
