Description :
Human activiy has affected the landscapes of karstic areas of the British Isles since the Mesolithic. Six main categories of human impact on limestone areas are considered in detail: ground-subsidence related; water related; quarrying; surface stone removal; damage or movement; cave damage; and indirect impact. Examples are taken from both the United Kingdom and Ireland, in a range of ages and types of limestone from the Cambrian to the Cretaceous.
