This paper will attempt to identify some underlying principles in coastal dune development and relate these to the opportunity to use mutiple dune features as a discriminatory tool in the general field of neotectonics investigations. Specifically, through an understanding of the developmental history of coastal dunes, it may be possible to relate multiple episodes of dune development to conditions associated with vertical displacements of the coastal zone.
