Factors limiting productivity of overgrazed, semi-arid rangelands on the Njemps Flats, Kenya were investigated, conducting fertilization and irrigation experiments. Productivity was evaluated in terms of yield, vegetation quality and soil chemical fertility, nitrogen in particular. Water shortage was the major factor restricting plant growth.
