A model on the stability of slopes composed of granular materials

Auteur :
ONDA, Y.

Description :
The A. presents a new two-dimensional statical model to examine the mechanism of stability of slopes composed of granular materials. The model, named GSM, is based on the static equilibrium among particles, in which static equilibrium of each particle is calculated and unstable particles are found. A comparison between the calculation of GSM and the experiment shows that the mechanism of avalanche initiation can be analysed sufficiently and the following concluded. Avalanching of granular materials is triggered by rotation of a particle at the slope surface, which caused some particles to lose their props successively.
