Description :
Bottom sediment cores from Lake Biwa have two anomalous intervals of uniform 210Pb concentration interposed between normal layers in which the concentration shows an ordinary downward exponential reduction. The 210Pb profiles were analyzed graphically and numerically with conceptual and physical models. The anomalous intervals were shown to be sedimentary anomalies associated with two extraordinary storms that brought exceptionally large amounts of rainfall and strong winds in 1896 and 1959.
