The new National Curriculum (NAT) to be introduced step-by-step from 1998 determines for all school types the minimal content requirements for teaching in ten educational areas and for two year time period. Geographical knowledge is presented under the educational heading of Our Globe and our environment. Time is necessary for the teaching-training work and this is what NAT does not provide for in our subject ; so the there is a real danger that geography cannot teach the correct objectives prescribed by NAT, hence it cannot keep in step with the requirements of our modern society. - (ZK)
