Description :
The author analyses the destruction of vineyards in the Tokaj-Hegyalja Region from the last decades of the 19th century to the present. Although natural forces contributed to the development of uncultivated land in the region - in the 1880-1890s the 80% of vineyards turned into uncultivated or became extinct, because of the phylloxera epidemic - it was mostly due to economic and social factors. - (AM)
