Normalized Endmember Spectral Mixture Analysis (NSMA) was applied to map urban land cover using Landsat TM data acquired over the city of Szeged, Hungary. Impervious surface, one of the most important elements of VIS-model, has been recognized as a key indicator in assessing urban environment. Fractional images of impervious surfaces developed from LTM images were compared. The urban land cover map was the base of the spatial analysis of urban heat island, which demonstrated a very strong connection between the spatial distribution of main urban land cover classes and the spatial characteristics of urban heat island. - (AM)
