One of the greatest river regulation schemes of Europe was implemented in Hungary during the second half of 19th century. River control, flood protection and other human interventions on the watershed bought unambiguous and measurable changes in the natural regime of Hungarian rivers. The study focuses on the flood stages of Hungarian rivers and presents the special hydrological situation of the Lower Tisza district. - (AM)
