The paper’s aim is to give a diagnosis of the spatial differentiation to electoral behaviour in rural areas of Poland, as well as to determine the dynamics and changes in direction of that behaviour in a period of the democratization of public life in the country and the introduction of a market economy. All political parties were grouped into four options: the Left and the Right, as well as the peasant and elitarian options. The first two options form an axis of ideological division, the second two an axis of socio-economic division. The paper also identifies factors contributing to the differentiation of electoral preferences observed among the rural population. The studies conducted concerned the parliamentary elections taking place in the 1993-2007 period. - (BJ)
