Description :
This paper uses a number of particle structural characterizations and behavioral assessments in an attempt to differentiate flocs formed in the water column from water stable soil aggregates formed in the terrestrial environments but transported to the River Dart in Devon, by overland flow. The aim of this paper is to explore the potential for using floc/aggregate fractal dimensions, sphericity, density, porosity, size and settling velocity to differenciate these particle types. The ability to determine the relative proportion of flocs and aggregates in suspension will clearly be important for future development of sediment and contaminant transport modelling.
