Description :
A 1996 revisit of the 1936 road trip of geographer Goerge J. Miller, who compiled a field diary and took over 60 photographs. Mitchell found all but two of the sites originally photographed. Article compares the two landscapes separated by 60 years. He found western Kansas to have rebounded with an intense agricultural economy supported by groundwater-based irrigation, southeastern Colorado to have stagnated since the 1930s, and northern New Mexico to have prospered from tourism and recreation. Throughout the trip he encountered increased tree cover. - (SLD)
