Auteurs :
GERLACH, J.
JANKE, J.

Description :
In the United States, the two main leisure activities are television watching and shopping, in that order. A. begin by reviewing the development of malls in North America and explain how the casino entertainment-shopping complexes were the precursor to the megamalls such as the Mall of America, in the Minneapolis - St. Paul metro area. Today, the Mall of America attracts over 40 million visitors per year, primarily to power shop big-ticket items, from as far away as Japan (400 tour groups per years). The experiences available at the Mall of America are discussed and the local and regional economic impacts are assessed. - (SLD)
