The paper tries to present some theoretical and practical aspects of promoting sustainable development in South Eastern European countries and Slovenia. The empirical analysis focuses on selected economic, social, and environmental indicators as well as on existing aggregate measures in order to assess progress towards the goals of sustainable development, paying special attention to a comparative perspective. The achievements of eight South Eastern European countries are compared with those of three neighbouring EU member states : Slovenia, Hungary, and Greece. - (IfL)
