A single vertebra from an Early Formative period archaeologicalsite in coastal Chiapas, Mexico, is identified as belonging to the amphibian Dermophis mexicanus. This specimen represents the first Quaternary fossil record for gymnophiones. Its
presence suggests the possible role of the species as a bioturbator. Its recovery is further evidence of the utility of fine-grained archaeological recovery techniques.
Archaeological evidence for a former bay at Seaside, Oregon

Excavations in 1988 at two of the sites explored previously, the Avenue Q(35CLT13) and Palmrose (35CLT47) sites, provided an opportunity to test the Seaside bay hypothesis. The evidence suggests that the sites bordered a small bay during the time
the midden sites were occupied, from at least 3500 to 1000 yr B.P. This study explores the nature and timing of the hypothesized landform changes, based on faunal and sedimentological evidence from the cultural midden sites and environs.
Based on the records of Shangshan site, the evolution of geomorphology and the relationship between the formation and development of local civilization and geographical environment has been discussed.

Chemical enrichment of soils at archaeologicalsites : some Oregon case studies
Soil samples from six sites were analyzed for pH and total P, Ca, Mg, K, Na, Fe, and Mn. P is the most widely used chemical indicator of prehistoric human occupancy of a site, but other elements help in interpreting specific archaeological features
within a site. Soil enrichment in P varies with the intensity of prehistoric occupancy of a site. Use of multiple elements allows identification of non-bone waste areas, waste areas with bone, burials with bone which are not waste areas, and non cultural
features such as natural charcoal concentrations. Vertical profiles are chemically stratified at 10 cm levels, and stratification is closely related to archaeological features.

The impact on the territory of important archaeologicalsites and related human activities has induced, as a rule, modifications in the local environmental system. An example is represented by the sanctuary of the goddess Mefitis in Macchia Rossano
, in the territory of Vaglio Basilicata, close to the town of Potenza (southern Italy). This archaeologicalsite has been affected by swelling in historical times that occurred in the allochthonous, chaotic, heterogeneous, and anisotropic polychrome scaly clays

This study presents an analysis of the spatial-temporal distribution of 230 archaeologicalsites in Guizhou Province, Southwest China for 3 selected time periods from the Paleolithic Age to the Shang-Zhou Dynasties. The relationship between
archaeologicalsites distribution and environmental changes is also discussed based on paleo-environmental proxies of δ18O and δ13C recorded in stalagmites from Southwest China. The results suggest that climate fluctuations had little impact on human settlements
in this study area. The distinct physical environment, especially the spatial patterns of karst landforms and arable land played an important role in the archaeologicalsites distribution of Guizhou.
