An objective hybrid classification of daily surface weather maps for Churchill, Manitoba, was used to determine the dominant synoptic conditions during the snowmelt and snow-free periods for the Canadian central subarctic. This classification
yielded different dominant synoptic types for the two normal (1996, 1997) and one El Niño (EN), (1998), seasons. The synoptic patterns that emerged were then related to the precipitation and surface evaporation regimes of a subarctic sedge fen typical
of the northern Hudson Bay Lowland subarctic region.
and environmental parameters. Four localities from different vegetation zones in Finnish Lapland were surveyed using precision levelling, during three measurements campaigns in 1993, 1994 and 2004.

Using data from a subarctic hillslope where detailed hydrological studies were conducted, this paper examines mechanisms of pipe formation with specific reference to cold-region and hydrogeomorphic processes. By providing a theoretical context
and supporting observations, linkages between pipes and other hillslope processes can be placed within the broader context of subarctic permafrost hillslope processes.

This paper reviews the occurence and morphology of coastal dunes developed in arctic and subarctic environments. The characteristic features of cold-climate coastal aeolian landforms are discussed, and some consideration is given

Studies of the ground temperatures and hydrological conditions at four sites on a subalpine heath and in the birch forest in the subarctic valley in Abisko from 1984-87 show that a clear relationship exists between ground temperature and climatic

The AA. develop and test a methodology to : 1) predict the occurrence of palsas, earth hummocks, sorted solifluction sheets and periglacial deflation sites in a subarctic landscape and 2) determine the most important environmental factors affecting
