A vegetation transect of 78 km was studied among 4 vegetation types : Restinga (coastal vegetation), Cerrado (woody savanna), Cerradão (dense woody savanna), and Forest, as well as three forested sites around Lagoa do Caçó, located approximately 10
km of the transect. Soil profiles in this transect were sampled for δ13 C analysis, as well as buried charcoal fragments were used for 14 C dating. The vegetation dynamic inferred in this study for northeastern Brazil is in agreement with the results
Relationships between eroded zones and vegetation barriers - composed of low vegetation, that is to say herbaceous and under-shrub layers - located downslope and sufficient to stop all the sediments eroded above, have been studied in the Brusquet
experimental marly catchment in the French southern Alps. The eroded zones and the vegetation barriers were characterized by their surface areas, between which an average linear relationship exists. Results also showed that, for a marly plot with a given
surface area, a downslope vegetation barrier covering only 20 per cent of this plot can be sufficient to trap all the sediments eroded above it.

In order to investigate the vegetation response to global warming, experimental research was carried out on a high mountain of Japan for 3 years from 1997 to 1999. The experimental site was at 2,780 m above sea level, near the peak of Mt. Norikura
. The main objectives were to clarify the differences in vegetation growth, phenology, biomass and coverage of plant between temperature-enhanced chambers and controls. Effects of temperature enhancement were recognized for all ecological aspects observed

An observation utilizing an infrared thermography was conducted on January 9, 2005, in the southern slope Mt. Houkyou and its accompanying slope holding a quarry where vegetation is scarce. The aim of this study is to deduce the effect of vegetation

This paper presents observations of frost boils in northern Alaska. It presents a hypothesis of how vegetation affects small-scale patterned-ground features across the complete Arctic climate gradient. Although not directly part of the Circumpolar
of vegetation types : grassland, bushes, wood. Caused by a mosaic of species in the different stages, the research has focused first on aspects of community structures. The dynamics of succession can be influenced by soil factors, ressources and competition
