A spatial analysis of the evolution of an urban system: the case of the Netherlands
Subject of this study is the development of the urban system in the Netherlands in the period 1840-1970. This period can be characterized by a transition from an agrarian-commercial society to an urban-industrial one. The industrial revolution has
caused a spatial differentiation in the regional economic structure. The urban regional structure in the North can be described in Christallerian terms, that of the South resembles more the structure of the Loschian model, the Western part of the country
