Modelling urban expansion using a multi agent-based model in the city of Changsha
China ; Decision process ; Hunan ; Model ; Multi-agent system ; Urban growth ; Urbanization
The AA. have built up a set of spatial-temporal land resource allocation rules and developed a dynamic urban expansion model based on a multi-agent system, which can simulate the interaction among different agents, such as residents, peasants
, and governments. This model is applied to simulate urban expansion process taking Changsha City as a study area. The results show that this model can not only reflect basic characteristics of urban expansion, but also help explain the reasons for urban expansion
Downstream effects of urbanization on stillwater Creek, Oklahoma

This project evaluates the effects of urbanization on Stillwater Creek, located in central Oklahoma. The upper section of this basin is predominantly rural, while the downstream section is experiencing urban expansion. Statistical analysis
) in this basin counter the possible effects of urbanization on channel morphology. Increasing urbanization was expected to reduce the sources of woody debris to stream channel and affect channel morphology. However, Stillwater Creek had thick riparian corridors
dominated by trees, which helped protect stream banks. A downstream parabolic channel cross-sectional shape also helped explain why this stream channel did not change radically due to urbanization.

Urban thermal fringes detection and environmental quality assessment : a case study of Tsukuba City

In this paper, the AA. describe the extraction of urban thermal fringes using remote sensing data and Focal Statistical Analysis method. They use Landsat TM/ETM+ thermal images to identify the thermal fringes spatial distribution patterns between
1987 and 2001 in Tsukuba city. They analyze the changing patterns for these 14 years (thermal properties of surface materials and lack of evapotranspiration). According to this study, urban heat island (UHI) effect was reducing between 1987 and 2001

The article is based in context with the actual discussion of reurbanisation and the renaissance of urban town. The paper attempt this discussion with an empirical analysis of private households accounts. The data basis is the case study of region
