This report focuses on research in this area published during 2007. It reflects the broad themes that emerged in the literature during this period, with an emphasis on urban-based work. Urban-based climatology is assuming increased importance
in the literature, including the inherent complexity of urban environments, which makes their study difficult, and the potential for purposeful use of micrometeorology to improve the environment experienced by most of the population. Moreover, 2007 provided a rich
vein of work in this area. The report is divided into 2 main sections, associated with the surface energy budget and its application to ‘natural’ settings and the study of urban climates.

This paper presents the basic characteristics of the systems of settlements and centers in Serbia. The forceful industrialization since the 1950s caused intensive urbanization which resulted in increasing of the number of urban settlements as well
as their size, with prominent supremacy of the capital city, Belgrade. The system of centers is presented by the hierarchy of urban centers with their spatial and functional areas as determined by the National spatial plan (1996). - (L'A.).

Dhaka is one of the world's fastest growing cities. This confronts its inhabitants with contradictions that ask for redefining our ways of living in and thinking about the city. Western conceptions of public space and urban societies are challenged
for sustainable mixed forms of urban development. City and urbanity emerge as the result of three continuously interacting and interdependent production processes : physical, mental and social.

The paper deals with cartographical and geoinformatical evaluation of Czech urban plans. The disparity between plan and map terms and how this disparity is perceived by cartographers and city planners is discussed. The recent standards for urban
planning in Czechia and their future changes are described together with web visualisation of urban plans. - (EN)

The aim of flagship-museumss is to attract large numbers of visitors and to boost urban tourism and the cultural economy. in the context of deindustrialisation, which can be observed in most western cities during the late 20th and early 21st century
, the creation of flagships-museums is often seen as opportunity to foster urban renewal and revitalization through public-private partnership.

Uncontrolled urbanization and the growing population pressure are essential challenges for the water management in urbanized regions of the emerging- and developing nations. The influence of uncontrolled urbanization regarding the groundwater
resourses of Yogyakarta is explicitly analyzed. The groundwater replenishment has not diminished despite of the growing soil sealing which comes as a consequence of the growing urbanization. On the contrary the urban groundwater replenishment is even
slightly accumulated. Admittedly the groundwater pollution rises very clearly. This is due to the effects of urban groundwater replenishment such as sewer leakages and badly constructed or actually missing sewage systems. Many inhabitants are not linked
Stream channel enlargment response to urban land cover in small coastal plain watersheds, North Carolina

The aim of the study was to characterize the effects of urban impervious area and associated stormwater runoff on the scaling of stream channel geometry and the associated grain size response with small Inner Coastal Plain watersheds in eastern
North Carolina. Urban expansion in the region began in the 1960s, with major urbanization occurring over the last 25 years. Channels draining urban watersheds are still responding to this land use change by downcutting and widening. Urban channel
Based on 4 land-cover type maps interpreted from remote sensing TM images of 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005, combining gradient analysis with landscape metrics, the quantified spatial pattern and its dynamics of urbanization in Guangzhou was got. Three
N-S and W-E were outlined along highways. A precise location for urbanized area, like city center and sub-center, could be identified by multiple landscape metrics. Multiple adjunctive centers occurred as indicated by analysis of radiation zones
around the city center. Some interesting and important ecological implications were revealed under landscape patterns of 2 transects or radiation zones, and that was the important step to link pattern with processes in urban ecological studies

Normalized Endmember Spectral Mixture Analysis (NSMA) was applied to map urban land cover using Landsat TM data acquired over the city of Szeged, Hungary. Impervious surface, one of the most important elements of VIS-model, has been recognized
as a key indicator in assessing urban environment. Fractional images of impervious surfaces developed from LTM images were compared. The urban land cover map was the base of the spatial analysis of urban heat island, which demonstrated a very strong
connection between the spatial distribution of main urban land cover classes and the spatial characteristics of urban heat island. - (AM)
A review of hydrological modelling of basin-scale climate change and urban development impacts
Bibliography ; Climatic change ; Hydrology ; Model ; The 2000's ; Urbanization ; Water management ; Water quality ; Water resources ; Watershed
This paper examines the combined modelling of climate change and urban development impacts on water quantity and quality. Hydrological impacts of climate change and urban development are likely to significantly affect future water resource
