- Tree root mounds and their role in transporting soil on forested landscapes
- The growth and decay of tree roots can stir and transport soil. Therefore, the AA. document the mounding of soil beside Ponderosa and Lodgepole pine trees in the forests of Colorado's Boulder Creek watershed. Positive mounding occurs on all sides
- of trees on slopes, indicating that the mounding is not attributable to deflection of a creeping flow of soil around the tree, but rather to the insertion of root volume on all sides in the subsurface. Mounding is commonly asymmetric even on cross-slope
- profiles. Significant variation in the mound sizes results in no clear relationship between tree diameter and root volume displaced. These observations motivated the development of a discrete element model of tree root growth using the LIGGGHTS model

- Latitude, basin size, and microhabitat effects on the viability of Acacia trees in the Negev and Arava, Israel
- This study aimed to examine the relationships between presumed water availability for acacia populations and their mortality by examining the effect on tree mortality of latitude, basin size, and microhabitat in the valley floor. A total of 1 980
- acacia trees in 11 wadis along the Arava and eastern Negev region were studied. The obtained results revealed a highly varied inter-wadi mortality rate. A negative correlation was revealed between latitude and tree mortality rate. No correlation
- was revealed between basin area and tree mortality rate. Various rates of tree mortality were observed in different microhabitats. The low occurrence of small tree-size group indicates low rate of recruitmen.

- The oxalate–carbonate pathway (OCP) is a biogeochemical process, which has been described in Milicia excelsa tree ecosystems of Africa. The aim of this study is twofold : 1) to make an inventory of trees in the Amazon Basin presenting some
- coupled cycles. As previously mentioned for M. excelsa tree ecosystems in Africa, carbonate accumulations observed in the Bolivian tropical forest could be extrapolated to part or the whole Amazon Basin and might constitute an important reservoir that must

- to the uprooting of trees by windthrow events, thereby causing variations in microtopography hereby referred to as pit–mound positions. A study site situated within the Tarbiat Modares University Experimental Forest Station located in the Mazandaran province
- was chosen for this research, with 34 uprooted trees selected for detailed study. Statistical comparisons revealed that the highest soil microbial respiration and net N-mineralization occurred in pit bottoms. Mound tops showed the lowest levels of soil

- The AA. present functional differences of bank-stabilizing root characteristics and added cohesion, with vegetation categorized as woody and non-woody and by the vegetation groups of trees, shrubs, graminoids, and forbs. They analyzed root
- categories with respect to the coefficient of the root tensile strength curve, lateral root extent, and maximum root diameter. Tree roots add significantly more cohesion to streambanks than forb roots. Additionally, rhizomes may play an important role
