Dans plusieurs régions du Sahara (Hoggar, Tibesti, Tchad, Nubie), un ou deux systèmes de terrasses se développent pendant la période holocène. Les caractères sédimentologiques de ces terrasses s'expliquent très bien en fonction des données récentes
Tibesti et du Hoggar complète l'étude. On trouve une forte corrélation entre ces limites et des paramètres climatiques. L'A. aborde ensuite une discussion sur la dynamique phyto-écologique des différents géoéléments depuis le Pléistocène.
Les conditions climatiques ont été en permanence arides à subarides depuis le Pliocène dans les vastes plaines qui s'étendent à l'ouest du Hoggar et au nord du Tibesti. La question reste en suspens pour les plaines du Sahara centre-oriental.
