  • Subtidal changes of the level of the River Thames are examined over the period September-October 1973. Almost 98 % of the total subtidal variance can be accounted for by a spatial mode describing uniform changes of level at all tide gauges
  • . This mode is due to changes of the level of the southern North Sea into which the River Thames flows. The remaining 2 % of total variance can be almost completely described by a tilting of level.

  • A rainfall-streamflow modelling methodology is applied to the monthly flow record for the Thames at Kingston, one of the most important long records of river flow, from 1883. The results confirm that low flows during droughts before about 1950 have

  • Subsurface data from the Miranda coastal plain, Firth of Thames, confirm that shell ridges between Kaiana and Miranda are true cheniers. Surveys of a modern chenier indicate that coarse sediment and shell form sand-bars on the foreshore

  • This paper examines the incision achieved during the Quaternary by the Thames, in both its upper and lower catchments, and by the Hampshire Avon in southern England. Valley incision rates have been identified, although in the lower catchment
  • of the Thames, these have been enhanced by additional incision in response to glacio-isostasy and valley shortening. A model is proposed in which regional uplift is recognized as the primary cause of incision by these Quaternary rivers. Possible mechanisms
