Analysis of a region's integration into the world capitalist system, emphasizing the means and evolution of articulation of precapitalist with capitalist modes of production. The present condition of the Hube area of Papua New Guinea is explained
in terms of articulation, dissolution of the original system, and emigration of the displaced resources (labour and capital). The decisive dissolution of the original system's values and ideology was achieved by Christian missionaries. The Pacific war
with a partially dissolved subsistence system and a tenuous position on the margins of the introduced capitalist system.
