This paper presents an analysis of miombo woodland (highly dynamic semi-arid ecosystems found on nutriant-poor soil groups) surrounding the Mkata plains in central Tanzania. The paper focuses on long-term physical and biological changes, mainly
Holocene evolution of a rock-bounded barrier-lagoon system, Cíes Islands, northwest Iberia
In this paper, the AA. analyse the depositional history of the Cíes Islands barrier-lagoon system, based on lithofacies, radiocarbon ages, and pollen analysis. The results reveal a sedimentary sequence that provides evidence for striking changes
in the dynamical functioning of this complex since the mid-Holocene. This resultant sedimentary sequence suggests that climatic conditions played an important role controlling the sedimentation regime during the entire history of the basin; changing water-table
levels during early stages of evolution and increasing storminess during more recent times. In addition, background sea-level rise related to the Holocene transgression was a key factor in controlling the evolution of the system, yet its influence

, two perspectives : an adaptation of White's hazards matrix, and the landscape sensitivity concept, are suggested which lend themselves to studies of recent and contemporary changes in earth surface systems. These perspectives can be synthesized
into a framework for the assessment of geomorphic changes and responses based on the four Rs : response (reaction and relaxation times), resistance (relative to the drivers of the change), resilience (recovery ability, based on dynamic stability), and recursion

This review considers the role of nearshore processes and morphological change as a flexible and dynamic constraint on the supply and transport of sediment between beach and dune. It is argued that the lack of information in this regard remains

This study in the Ecuadorian Andes evaluates the potential of vegetation to stabilize active gully systems by trapping and retaining eroded sediment in the gully bed, and analyses the significance of vegetation restoration in the gully bed
(1-15 years) sediment deposition and gully stabilization. The presence of vegetation in gully beds gives rise to the formation of vegetated buffer zones, which enhance short-term sediment trapping even in active gully systems in mountainous
environments. Vegetation buffer zones are shown to modify the connectivity of sediment fluxes, as they reduce the transport efficiency of gully systems.

using geographic information system (GIS) tools. A morphometric index was applied to extract kettle lakes as indicators of a specific glacial process - ice stagnation. Analysis of their spatial distribution helped in the reconstruction of glacial
dynamics in formerly glaciated terrain. The results show that spatial lake distribution combined with elevation analysis can be used to identify zones of glacial erosion and deposition.
