- Agriculture in North Queensland is highly specialized and localized and, despite efforts at diversification, is as dominated by sugar as it has ever been. The chances of success of other crops, such as rice, appear to be greatest in districts
- Biotechnology in agriculture : Agronomic and environmental considerations and reflections based on 15 years of GM crops
- Agricultural production ; Agriculture ; Bibliography ; Biotechnology ; Crop ; Environment ; GMO ; Impact ; The 1990's ; The 2000's
- This paper reviews the published literature on the agronomic and environmental impact of GM crops in the last 15 years. Overall, the impact of GM crops has largely been agronomically and environmentally positive in both developed and developing
- world contexts. The often claimed negative impacts of GM crops have yet to materialize on large scales in the field. Environmentally, the decrease in insecticide use has benefited non-target and beneficial organisms while surface and groundwater
- contamination is less significant; human-health problems related to pesticide use have also declined. Equally important is the reduced carbon footprint as energy inputs are reduced. Of particular note, however, is the recognition that the success or longevity
- of GM crops is reliant on the speed with which resistance develops in target weeds and insects. Good management will determine how long this strategy proves positive.
- First record of ammonites in the Bonarelli level (uppermost Cenomanian) of the Umbria-Marche succession
- The presence of ammonites in the Bonarelli Level (uppermost Cenomanian) of the Umbria-Marche Succession is reported here for the first time. The horizon studied has been recognised near Serra S. Abbondio, on the external limb of the Mt. Catria
- anticline, where the upper part of the Scaglia Bianca Formation and the interbedded Bonarelli Level crop out. An ammonite, preserved as a bidimensional trace, has been found within one black shale bed which characterizes the level. The lack of diagnostic

- A discussion of how World Neighbors, a nongovernmental organization headquartered in the USA, has helped small farmers in the Socorro district of central Honduras carry out sustainable and profitable agriculture. The success comes from using local

- Importance of sky conditions on the record 2004 Midwestern crop yields
- Agroclimatology ; Atmospheric circulation ; Cereal ; Cloud cover ; Crop ; Crop yield ; Illinois ; Midwest ; United States of America
- Weather during the 2004 growing season in the Midwest produced exceptionally high yields of all crops with resulting record yields that were 10% to 25% above prior records, an exceptional increase. The inability to assess the magnitude of the 2004
- crop yields resulted from a lack of information regarding the presence and effect of the numerous days with sunny skies in 2004. These results suggest that in the future, sky conditions measured during the growing season need to be incorporated
- in assessments of potential final crop yields.

- In 10 soils from central Greece devoted to cereal cropping, seasonal wet aggregate stability (WAS) fluctuations were investigated over a period of two successive years. The wet-sieving technique of air-dried aggregates was used
- deposits pertaining respectively to the Trapanese and the Sicanian successions, and a thick Oligo-Miocene numidian flysch body, crop out. A structural analysis reveals complex tectonic relationships between the Trapanese carbonate platform tectonic unit
- countries. The extension of outside interests into the Pacific has brought rapid economic changes, the emergence of cash cropping and the decline of subsistence agriculture, increased dependence on imports (especially food) and rapid urbanization, producing
- growing dependence and inequality and outmigration. This suggests that strategies of development that appear viable elsewhere have little chance of success in the Pacific.

- Selected legume cover crops for hillside environments in Bolivia
- Agroclimatology ; Bolivia ; Climate ; Crop ; High mountain ; Simulation ; Vegetables
- Soil fertility in the mid-elevation hillsides of the Cochabamba region of Bolivia has been declining as natural fallow times have been reduced in order to bring more land into crop production. A photothermal model is used to simulate climate
- conditions for 12 legume cover crops in three hillside locations. Tropical legume crops are found to be suitable at different elevations, from 2,500 m to 3,500 m. - (SLD)
