Northeast Scotland is an area exhibiting selective erosion by Quaternary ice sheets. In this area both glacial and preglacial landforms exist in close proximity. The depths of erosion which this modification represents are calculated
on the assumption of various depths of preglacial weathering. The aim of this paper is therefore to calculate the depth and rate of Quaternary erosion across northeast Scotland using geomorphological reconstruction.
Phytolith and carbon isotope evidence for late Quaternary vegetation and climate change in the Southern Black Hills, South Dakota
C 14 dating ; Carbon ; Climatic variation ; Grassland ; Holocene ; Isotope analysis ; Palaeobiogeography ; Quaternary ; South Dakota ; United States of America ; Vegetation
Analyses of phytoliths and carbon isotopes document the rate and nature change in late Quaternary grasslands in the Red Valley of the southern Black Hills. This paper will evaluate the temporal sensitivity and spatial limits of the methods.
Quaternary deposits in the Maltese Islands : a microcosm of environmental change in Mediterranean lands
Agricultural land use ; Climatic variation ; Human impact ; Interglacial ; Lithology ; Malta ; Mediterranean area ; Palaeo-environment ; Palynology ; Pedogenesis ; Pollen analysis ; Quaternary ; Soil erosion ; Stratigraphy ; Tufa
In this paper, examples of typical Mediterranean Quaternary lithofacies, including tufa and slope, fluvial, coastal, aeolian and cave deposits are described from the Maltese Islands. The deposits are correlated and their climatic signal
is interpreted to provide a first modern assessment of Quaternary environmental change in the Maltese Islands.
Geomorphic analysis of late Quaternary faulting on Hilton Creek, Round Valley and Coyote warp faults, east-central Sierra Nevada, California, USA

Paleopedology of Terrae rossae-rhodoxeralfs from Quaternary calcarenites in NW Morocco
Carbonate rock ; Clay mineral ; Climatic variation ; Human impact ; Kaolinite ; Karst ; Micromorphology ; Morocco ; Palaeosol ; Quaternary ; Red soil ; Soil erosion ; Terra rossa
investigations of 5 selected rhodoxeralfs, one of them in a karst pocket. The results together with a discussion of the Quaternary climatic history of this region allow some conclusions regarding landscape genesis connected with ecological problems.
This study establishes, with a deep (344.64 m) continuous borehole, the Quaternary stratigraphy of the Yangtze delta and identifies lithofacies; examines the distribution of the trace elements in marine and fresh water environments; and defines sets

The research was focused mainly on surveying lake deposits, as well as the morphology and structure of the Pre-Quaternary lake deposits and the morphology and structure of the Pre-Quaternary basement of Lake Balaton. Paleontological investigations
Through the interpretation of sedimentological, geomorphological, paleoclimatic and tectonic information the geomorphic evolution of the Transdanubian Mountains from the Cretaceous to the Quaternary is presented. Several sedimentary cycles occurred
in the range governed by alternating uplift and denudation. Intervals of valley incision and of planation of various type have been identified. At the beginning of the Quaternary pedimentation was the principal geomorphic factor, then replaced by fluvial
