This paper studies the endogenous choice of transport technology, traditional versus modern, by a shipper. Although the modern technology is characterized by higher fixed costs and a higher speed of transport, it is chosen for intermediate distances
, rather than to long distances. The reason is that, when the shipper switches to the modern technology, the industrial firm changes production from the home to the foreign city. Thus, the demand for transport decreases proportionally to the distance
between the home and foreign city. For long distances, revenue from transportation becomes so low that the modern technology does not break even.

This paper examines the post-politics of climate change in Australia and discuss an important but otherwise little remarked temporality. First, we note the spatial structuring of Rancière's post-political theorization as it informs geographical
research on the governance of social and environmental issues. Second, we identify a post-politics in climate change policy developed by the Australian federal government (under Rudd then Gillard) which culminated in 2011 with its carbon pricing proposals
and subsequent clean energy plan. Third, referring to the discursive material associated with these developments, we discuss the critical importance of time in the climate change debate, returning us to comment on the problematic temporality of post-politics

The article draws upon a case study of an embryonic post-carbon initiative completed in early 2013 called Lilac. Based in Leeds, it is the first attempt to build an affordable, ecological cohousing project in the UK. Its three aspects each respond
to significant challenges. Six lessons are explored from Lilac that outline a roadmap towards post-carbon cities.
