- Asymmetric effects of national-based active labour market policies
- Economic development ; Economic policy ; Economic structure ; Employment ; Employment policy ; Italy ; Labour market ; Northern Italy ; Regional disparities ; Regional economy ; Southern Italy
- This article analyses the symmetric effects of national-based active labour market policies in Italy. The results suggest that while in the South employment is mainly driven by social and economic context variables, in the North the employment
- dynamics are significantly explained by policy interventions. Two policy implications are suggested. First, the success of active ones depends on the regional labour market conditions. Second, policy-makers should adjust labour policy strategy to regional

- policy. It is suggested that their marginalization is part of a postpolitical condition, in which deliberative techniques, such as public consultation, are part of a process to manage those that dissent from the preferred policy choice—i.e. shared space
- . It concludes that an implication is the depoliticisation of shared space policy in which the unequal, and unjust, ways in which urban design impacts on vision-impaired people are neither articulated nor recognised by formal policy programmes.

- Costa Rica ; Economic geography ; Economic policy ; Financing ; Impact ; Production system ; Reform ; Role of the State ; Social geography ; Social policy ; Welfare
- This article draws from Costa Rica’s showcase of human development and universalistic social policies to address how the production regime supports and constrains the welfare regime. We show that there were some positive relations between the two
- regimes at various points but that they were neither fully nor mostly complementary. At the theoretical level, we highlight key features of production in Latin America and the need to consider such material bases as part of robust welfare policies
- . At the policy level, our argument stresses the importance of promoting both leading and low-productivity sectors simultaneously and of securing stable funding mechanisms for the welfare regime. We offer a cautionary note to Latin American countries slowly moving
- countries, theoretical and policy implications can easily travel beyond Latin America.

- State transformation, policy learning, and exclusive displacement in the process of urban redevelopment in Taiwan
- Gentrification ; Household ; Role of the State ; Social exclusion ; Social geography ; Taipei ; Taiwan ; Urban development ; Urban policy ; Urban renewal ; Working class
- This paper explores the dynamics behind the changing regimes of urban renewal and its social impacts in Taipei, Taiwan. It then brings two issues to the fore. The first one is the learning process concerning the policy of public-private partnership
- initiatives. It demonstrates that policy transferred from abroad is “localized” in the learning process and used to prioritize the regeneration of public lands in the urban area. The second one is the social exclusion as a result of property-led regeneration
