The regional and structural problems involved by extensive development policy are overviewed in a macroregion of Hungary rich in mineral resources, developed and cultural traditions. The settlement system, the state of the environment
and the occupational and age structure of population are not merely consequences of past economic policy, but also controls on the future exploitation of resources, socio-economic potentials. - (DLO)
