Pollen and macrofossil analyses of two radiocarbon dated lake sediment cores in the upper PeaceRiverdistrict were used to investigate the controversial late-glacial geochronology of the ice-free corridor between the Laurentide and Cordilleran ice
masses. The data support occlusion or near occlusion of Laurentide and Cordilleran ice in the PeaceRiver area during the late Wisconsin. The sediment record began around 12,000 yr BP in the ice-damned and enlarged Boune Lake. An initially open, sedge
River systems and flood problem in Jalparguri district, West Bengal
Cours d'eau ; Crue ; Géographie de l'Asie ; Inde ; Inondation ; Jalparguri district ; Risque naturel ; West Bengal
Rivers in this district of West Bengal alter the landscape by their floods, which are still a menace. An attempt has been made to depict the flood hazards in the river systems of the district. - (PLK)

River valleys as elements of the system of protected areas in the Lublin administrative district
This article presents results of the research on the protection of the river valleys of Lublin Voivodeship. To determine the degree of protection of the river valleys cartometric methods based on the available maps and the Ministry of Environment
and Office of Spatial Planning in Lublin data are used. The results of researches made that the protected landscape areas are element of the system of protected areas, which includes the highest percentage of river length in region (over 13%). Outside
the protected areas, there are 70% of the length of the river. In this system of protection, fragmentation of the valleys is significant. None of the major rivers of the region, including the Vistula and the Bug, is not protected throughout in their length
targeted for peace and stability should be focused at the regional level as the effect of any intervention may go beyond a district’s boundary.
This paper uses a spatial analytical approach in locating and explaining conflict in Nepal. Human casualties that occurred during the 10 years of conflict in the districts is the dependent variable to be explained. The results show that lower life
expectancy, lower per capita income, low literacy, low employment, low scores on gender equality, and a weak infrastructure base in the districts are associated with higher conflict, possibly reflecting greater level of grievances against the government
Palaeoflood analysis of channel-fill deposits, central Tapti river basin, India
The Quaternary sediments exposed on the banks of the river Aner which is a tributary of the river Tapti, near Piloda (district Dhule), western India, reveal 3 channel-fill structures, spatially at the same level. The AA. therefore present here
an example of small scale avulsion from the Quaternary alluvial deposits of the Tapti river basin, and discuss the palaeohydrologic significance.
A series of supply-oriented indicators is used to draw up a ranking of the European river-cruise-districts. The cruising market is characterized by extensive investment strategies of some leading companies. The canal-systems of Western Europe form
the most important prerequisite for houseboat-tourism. The rising request for adventures and progress in kayak-and raft-technology are driving factors to whitewater-tourism. Biking has become a prefered leisure activity with river basins as the main goal
Hillslope-channel sediment transfer in a slope failure event : Wet Swine Gill, Lake District, northern England
to the main river (River Caldew). In the region enclosing this study, the River Caldew is one of 138 English rivers identified as at risk, and in 35% of cases this is due to sediment delivery. In all cases this risk status is determined without consideration

. There are distinguished five sub-latitudinal zones and one meridional (the Urals) belt which differ according to the presence or the absence of the upper-range of the river bed-forming discharge which corresponds to the submerged flood-plain. For each region and district
Based on the calculations of river bed-forming water discharges on rivers (according to N. I. Makkaveyev's method) there is proved the scheme of regionalization of European territory of the Union according to the conditions of their distribution
is given the description of the river bed and its deformations which are correlated with the river bed-forming water discharges.―(L'A.).
The sensitivity of Scottish rivers and upland valley floors to recent environmental change
Atmospheric circulation ; Flood ; Global change ; Land use ; Nineteenth Century ; River bed ; Scotland ; Sensitivity analysis ; Stream ; United Kingdom ; Valley floor evolution
This paper examines the stability of river channels and their associated valley floors in the uplands of Scotland since 1750. Changes in global-scale atmospheric circulation patterns during this period have resulted in regionally district flood-rich
and flood-poor periods with potential geomorphic impacts. Changes in the planform of 9 active rivers in the piedmont zone of upland Scotland are examined from series of rectified maps and aerial photographs at scales close to 1:10 000. Differences
in geomorphic history, land use and degree of slope-channel coupling are identify as the likely causes of marked differences in the behaviour of active rivers in Scotland and northern England over the last 250 years.

Metal contamination from gold mining in the Cid District, North Carolina
Physical geography of medium-sized rivers, focusing on the Southeastern and South-Central United States. Part I
Bassin-versant ; Cid District ; Etats-Unis ; Exploitation minière ; Métaux lourds ; North Carolina ; Or ; Pollution
The aim of this paper was to assess contamination from 19th century gold (Au) mining in the Cid district, North Carolina. Sediment samples collected from active channel sediments and floodplain cores were analyzed for mercury (Hg), copper (Cu), lead
in the district. The use of Hg and other metals as tracers associated with mining activities suggests that long-term rates of floodplain sedimentation in the Cid district were less than half as high as those in the nearby Gold Hill district. This suggests
that the intensity of land disturbance in the Cid district was less than in the more intensively mined Gold Hill district.
Revitalisation du cours d'eau Ložnice dans la région du district de Dravinjske
Biodiversity ; River bed ; River management ; Slovenia ; Stream ; Sustainable development
Ložnica is a stream on the eastern part of Dravinske gorice. It is one of a river Dravinja's tributaries. Our article deals with the use of sustainable methods to improve biodiversity in Ložnica watershed. Ložnica was regulated in its central part
River and the Higashi-gouchi River located in Hokkaido and Shizuoka Prefectures, northern and central districts of Japan. The age distribution of floodplain deposits available for three other rivers, the Furano, Nunobe and Haruki is also investigated.
In this study, the AA. analysed a series of aerial photographs, the age distribution of floodplain deposits and sedimentation data of reservoirs in order to understand sediment routing in mountain rivers. The main rivers investigated were the Saru
