Study is an examination of the role of tree planting in urban development on the Great Plains and in the making of place in the grassland biome. A. uses Norman, Oklahoma as a case study of a treeless frontier outpost in 1889 that was transformed
into an attractive college town known for shaded streets and a wooded campus (the University of Oklahoma). - (SLD)

the Capitol grounds as Governor Marland, a former oil tycoon, insisted in 1936 that the State exploit the oil in there. After drilling began there, an election was held to include the Capitol grounds in the oil zoning of the Oklahoma City Oil Field. In 1980s
the oil wells there began to run dry, but eight are preserved largely as a symbol of the importance of oil and natural gas to Oklahoma. - (SLD)

Using a hydrologic model to estimate daily soil moisture at 258 evaluation locations over a 30-year period, the spatial variability and persistence of soil moisture across Oklahoma is examined. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) uses readily
moisture across Oklahoma are examined, including vegetation type and soil texture and depth. Of the 3 parameters, soil depth plays a significant role in the memory of soil moisture conditions. As the soil profile depth increases, a corresponding increase

The aims of this study were to evaluate the potential impacts of climate change on soil erosion, surface runoff, and wheat productivity in central Oklahoma. The Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP) model was run for 4 climate scenarios including
a recent historical climate and 3 tillage systems. The overall results indicate that no-till and conservation tillage systems will be effective in combating soil erosion under projected climates in central Oklahoma.
