of synthesizing model simulations and paleoclimatic data. Most parts of China will experience an increase in temperature, but the warming may be more remarkable in winter in the northern half of the country. Some regions will benefit from the climate change
Model simulations and paleoclimatic data studies show an evident change in temperature and precipitation over China will occur under conditions of the global warming. Possible scenarios of the future climates are given here for China on the basis
Carbon storage in desertified lands : a case study from North China

of China, total stored carbon, including carbonate carbon, is 1,8-fold more than organic carbone alone. The carbon released through land desertification in China may be an important factor affecting changes in concentrations of greenhouse gases worldwide.

there is a higher SCD, are computed and analyzed. Results show that SCD in Northeast China presents a yearly rising tendency and SCP decreases obviously. By referring to the vapor transmission map, it is the vapor moving northwestward along the northern side
Based on 1961–2005 observed winter precipitation data in Northeast China, the temporal and spatial variations of snow concentration degree (SCD) and snow concentration period (SCP), together with the circulation characteristics when
of the core that exerts great impacts on Northeast China.

The spatial distribution and monthly/annual variation of foggy days in China are analyzed based on the monthly mean fog data collected from 604 observational stations for the period 1961-2000. Results show that there are 6 fog regions in China
. The monthly variation curves of foggy days are bimodal in the coastal area of the Yellow Sea and northern Xinjiang, and unimodal in other regions.

In China loess deposits cover 631,000 km between latitudes 47 and 37, much more to the south than in Europe. Loess in China has carefully been described in recently published books| northern and northwestern arid China have been opened to foreign
and the precipitation map of China respectively. In eastern and northernChina, the distribution of climate types is basically acceptable, but for Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau the potential range of desertification is smaller than expected.
Distribution of desertification climate types in China was analyzed using Thornthwaite's method on calculating potential evapotranspiration (PE), according to the definition provided by the United Nations Convention, by employing meteorological
records from 1864 stations in China. The annual PE and the humidity indices were calculated for every station, based on which a distribution map of HI was constructed. The distribution map of HI was compared with the vegetation map of China

The A. analyzes salinization amelioration by using measures concerning subsurface water regulation. In addition to water conservancy measures, this paper also describes a comprehensive way to ameliorate salinization in northern NCP. Finally
, the A. stresses the necessity of combining all measures together into a whole system for solving salinization problems in northern NCP.

Spatial and temporal patterns of aeolian deposition at Shapotou, northernChina, were studied on a chronosequence (0,12,29 and 37 years) of stabilised desert dunes. Aeolian deposition markedly influenced soil and vegetation changes on the dunes

This study, based on daily precipitation data from 47 representative stations in the North China Plain (NCP) records passed the homogeneity test, analyzed the trend and amplitude of variation in monthly, seasonal and annual precipitation, annual
seasonal and regional pattern, i.e., precipitation showed an obvious increasing trend in winter, but a decreasing trend in the rainy season (July to September), and the changing trend was more apparent in the northern part than in the southern and middle
parts. This implies that with global warming, seasonal variation of precipitation in NCP tends to decline with an increasing of precipitation in winter season, and a decreasing in rainy season, particularly in the sub-humid northern part.
