This paper describes the results of detailed surveys for the landscape systems (landforms, vegetation, topsoils and snow cover duration) of a nivationhollow in northern Japan and discusses their evolution in the Holocene epoch. The nivationhollow
studied consists of 3 concentric zones whose landscapes and historical development are different. Landscape evolution of the hollow is reconstructed since the late glacial period. Attention is directed toward the timings of slope stabilization
Most of the main nivationhollows and valleys are older than the last phase of the Weichselian glaciation as indicated by the fact that they contain till or morainic boulders from the north eastern ice, the main ice stream in Skåne during the last
glaciation. Hydro-thermal water has made hollows and rill water small valleys in the cliff where the nivation processes begun. The nivation processes were caused by drifting snow from the east during the Weichselian.

This paper discusses the results of a lichenometrical and geomorphological study of one of the few remaining active snow hollows in the central region of the Iberian Peninsula. The study area, located on a glacial shoulder, is called Hoya del
Cuchillar de las Navajas. A protalus rampart occurs at the base of the hollow. The studies, conducted between 1992 and 1998, were designed to determine the geomorphological characteristics of Hoya, the mobility of the deposits, and the characteristics
of the snow cover. These data formed the basis for a study of the lichen colonization on the blocks and on the wall surrounding the snow hollow.

More than 10,000 nivation landforms occur in the higher mountain ranges of the western Great Basin. Nearly all of these nivationhollows are relict. Distribution of nivationhollows suggests that (1) the full glacial nivation threshold altitude (NTA

The aim of this study was to determine plant distribution at a nivationhollow located in a Mediterranean high mountain area and to analyse the effects of snow cover, wind exposure, proximity to moisture and the characteristics of the substrate
on the vegetation. The AA. analyse these factors and interpret concurrent effects due to recent climatic change. The nivationhollow, called Ventisquero de la Condesa is located in the Sierra de Guadarrama. The AA. established 579 small sample plots in the study
area, and grouped them into 29 transects. Due to environmental changes caused by recent global warming, several plant species, especially adapted to survival in snow conditions, coexist in the hollow with saxicolous plants that have invaded the site

The Mont Dore massif is a typical high-mountain area with nival relief dominant above the timberline. Nivation, cryogenic processes and deflation are the key morphogenic processes, but runoff action, especially on slopes with deteriored vegetation
This paper discusses nivation and its effects, based on quantitative studies. These are related to local environmental conditions including slope type, aspect and weathering cover. It illustrates the role of snow patches in the High Tatras.
of weathering over time. The spatial pattern of weathering is influenced by the narrow ecological range of the species. Surface rocks on dry, exposed sites are probably weathering much more rapidly than those in adjacent damp hollows and beneath snowpatches.

Two types of landforms attributed to the geomorphological effects of long-lasting snow accumulations, snowpatch hollows and pronival ramparts, were studied in the Krkonoše Mountains, Czech Republic. Factors influencing the distribution
and morphology of snowpatch hollows were examined using statistical analysis of field-measured and DEM-modelled snowpatch hollow characteristics. Snowpatch hollows were classified into two groups. The age and degree of activity of pronival ramparts, occurring
