The purpose of this paper is to present radiocarbon ages and soil-stratigraphic data for the lower few meters of Peoria loess in south-central Nebraska.

Geochemical and geomorphic data from dune fields in southwestern Nebraska provide new evidence that the Nebraska Sand Hills once migrated across the North and South Platte rivers and dammed the largest tributary system to the Missouri River
. The Lincoln County and Imperial dune fields, which lie downwind of the South Platte River, have compositions intermediate between the Nebraska Sand Hills and northeastern Colorado dunes. The most likely explanation for the intermediate composition
is that the Lincol County and Imperial dunes are derived in part from the Nebraska Sand Hills and in part from the South Platte River.

The Peoria Loess of south-central Nebraska, deposited approximately during the Last Glacial Maximum, can be subdivided into three zones: an upper laminated loess and a lower massive loess, separated by a dark gley zone in which bison bones

Based on multivariate analysis of mollusk assemblages and magnetic susceptibility of the Eustis section in western Nebraska, the climate of the Peoria loess steppe was relatively mild and, in terms of annual precipitation, relatively moist during

The aim of this study is to characterize the alluvial fans of the Nebraska Sand Hills, to provide a complete description of the deposits and source area, and to interpret the history and processes of their deposition. The AA. will show that local

Possible sources of Peoria loess in central Nebraska have been investigated through the fingerprinting of the textural, geochemical and mineralogical characteristics of the loess and possible source sediments, with statistical comparison
of the textural and compositional fingerprints. The results contrast with the desert loess model proposed by Lugn (1960), and are instead consistent with the derivation of the Peoria loess in Nebraska primarily from fluvio-glacial outwash sediments carried
